As part of the Army-2024 forum, the Kalashnikov Concern demonstrated a fully finished RPL-20 light machine gun. At the moment, an experimental batch of machine guns is awaiting shipment for testing. Apparently, over the past few years, Kalashnikov specialists have managed to eliminate technical problems and refine its design in accordance with the wishes of the military. The machine gun they presented is distinguished by an interesting combination of caliber and ribbon power, which in itself is unique for the armament of the Russian army.
The belt feed provided the machine gun with a great advantage over magazine models, which had a very limited supply of cartridges and quickly ran out. It is equipped with 5.45x39 mm caliber cartridges, and its automation works by removing powder gases from the barrel. The developers have also provided a large number of additional accessories for it, with which the machine gun can be adapted to almost any situation. In the future, the manufacturer is going to release the RPL-20 with support for 5.56 x 45 and 7.62 x 39 mm calibers in order to be able to export it to different countries where similar ammunition is used.
